Matthew Wight – PrincipalMr. Wight has served as principal at Apex High since 2006. He had previously been principal at Salem Middle, Reedy Creek Middle, East Cary Middle, and Trask Middle (in Wilmington). He has had high school experience as an assistant principal at New Hanover High and as a teacher and coach at John T. Hoggard High, both in Wilmington. Mr. Wight was named the 2008-09 Wake County and North Central Principal of the Year. A native of Landover, Maryland, Mr. Wight earned his B.A. (Intermediate Education) and his M.Ed. (Educational Administration) from UNC- Wilmington. Outside of school, Mr. Wight enjoys spending time with his family, reading, running, and participating in church activities. |

Jeannette Hill - Assistant PrincipalMrs. Jeannette Hill became an Assistant Principal at Apex in 2004. Previously, she taught Social Studies at Northridge Middle School in Charlotte, North Carolina and Science at Kannapolis Middle School in Kannapolis, North Carolina. Mrs. Hill received both her Bachelor of Arts in Education and her Master of School Administration degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Outside of school, Mrs. Hill enjoys spending time with her family and friends, participating in church activities, reading, and traveling. |
Robert Barbour - Assistant Principal
Mr. Bob Barbour returned to AHS in February 2011. Previously he served 6.5 years with Durham Public Schools as an administrator, and 14 years at AHS as a teacher and coach. He earned his undergraduate degree from East Carolina University and his Masters in School Administration from North Carolina State University. When away from school Mr. Barbour enjoys spending time with his family, cooking, reading, and sports. |

Kevin Sergent - Assistant PrincipalKevin Sergent is one of one of four Assistant Principals at Apex High School. He began here in March of 1996. He received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Marshall University. His administrative certification is from ECU. Outside of school, he stays busy with his church activities, plays golf and tennis, and tries to keep up with his 6 children, his son-in-law and 3 grandchildren. |

Ginger Wooten - Assistant PrincipalMrs. Wooten joined the AHS staff February 2010. Previously, she served as Assistant Principal of Moore Square Museums Magnet Middle School and East Cary Middle School. Mrs. Wooten taught language arts and social studies at Wake Forest-Rolesville Middle School, Jacksonvillle Middle School (Jacksonville, NC), Hutto Middle School (Bainbridge, Georgia), and Worth County Middle School (Sylvester, Georgia). A native of Raleigh, NC, Mrs Wooten graduated from Sanderson High School. She received her B.S. degree from Fayetteville State University and her Master of School Administration from North Carolina State University. In her free time, Mrs Wooten enjoys spending time with her family, reading, cooking, and bird-watching. |

Kelley Simpson - Assistant PrincipalMrs. Simpson joined Apex High School in December 2011. Her previous experiences include teaching math at Cary High School, St. Mary Magdalene in Apex and at Carmel Middle School in Charlotte, NC. Mrs. Simpson received her Bachelor of Science in Middle School Education degree from East Carolina University. She obtained her Masters in School Administration as a Principal Fellow at North Carolina State University. Outside of school, Mrs. Simpson enjoys attending her boys’ sporting events, cheering on the Carolina Hurricanes and playing tennis with her husband. |
