About Us
The Apex High School Chorus, directed by Heather Copley, is made up of 110 voices, male and female. The ages of students range from 14-18. Each year Apex has students who participate in the North Carolina Honors Chorus, the North Carolina All State Chorus, and in the 2005 American Choral Directors Association National Choir in Los Angeles, California. They have received superior ratings in festivals in and out of state over the past seven years. They have won 1st place awards in Atlanta, Georgia; Williamsburg, Virginia; Norfolk, Virginia; Orlando, Florida; and Nassau, Bahamas. They have performed by invitation and auditions at Carnegie Hall in New York City, The Biltmore House Candlelight Tour in Asheville, North Carolina, and for the North Carolina Music Educators Conference in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, the Heritage Festivals of Gold in Chicago, and the Memorial Day Invintational Festival at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC. Apex is known for its outstanding Women's Chorus. Apex High School maintains three different choir classes -- Choral Ensemble, Concert Chorus, and Special Choral Ensemble Honors. Each class studies and sings a variety of music from each genre. These choirs perform in concerts throughout the year. Choral Ensemble (Women's Chorus) This course is offered to beginning and intermediate level female singers. Admittance to this class is by audition only. The purchase of a uniform is mandatory. Students will also be required to fund raise $50 for the program. Students will sing a variety of repertoire from classical to pop. Students will also learn basic vocal technique, basic music theory, and sight singing skills. Students will perform about four times a year outside of the classroom. You are required to register all year. top of page Concert Chorus (Men's Chorus) This course is offered to any male student 9th - 12th grade. In the fall, they will learn basic and intermediate level repertoire from classical to pop. In the spring, they will study more on the advanced level. The purchase of a uniform is mandatory. Students will also be required to fund raise $50 for the program. Students will perform six to eight times a year outside the classroom. Students are required to perform in festivals in and out of state. This is a non audition course. You are required to register all year. top of page Special Choral Ensemble Honors (Honors Women's Chorus) This course is offered to 10th - 12th grade girls only by an audition process. Students will study advanced and collegiate level repertoire, music theory, music history, and sight singing skills. The purchase of a uniform is mandatory. Students will also be required to fund raise $50 for the program. Our Director, Heather Copley Heather Copley has been the director at Apex High School for 10 years. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Education and a Bachelor of Arts in Voice from Meridith College in Raleigh, North Carolina. Each year Mrs. Copley is the Music Director for the Apex Fine Arts Department's Musical Productions. Apex students have recently presented 1940's Radio Hour, Music Man, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Into the Woods, Grease, West Side Story, Seussical the Musical, and Footloose. She is also the advisor to the Apex High School Tri-M Honor Music Society. top of page |
